In October 2009 Glencot House hosted what was probably the largest number of one-person balloons
(known as 'hoppers') ever assembled. For two days the colourful globes with local and overseas
pilots drifted elegantly over the Somerset countryside around the Wells area. There was competition –
though not too serious – for prizes on flights which started from Glencot's beautiful private
cricket pitch and alighted in fields stretching from Glastonbury to the Mendip hills.
This was the 27th such event and, according to organiser Phil Dunnington, the most successful yet. Planning for 2010 is already in hand aiming to attract perhaps 30 balloons and building on the special relationship with Millers' Glencot that made 2009 such a success.
